Another Avante-Garde filmmaker I have come across in the past is Peter Tscherkassy, who used found footage and manipulated it to create new films and stories, transforming films into something completely new through editing. This is something I find infinitely fascinating to experiment with, editing is so crucial to film and his films emphasise this. I am going to see if I can get some offcuts of film from the film students and create my own montages entirely out of old footage that I have no concept of. The fact I have no concept of its original intension also makes it feel more honest and pure, what I mean by this is I am seeing the film as it is and making decisions on what I want it to mean and how I want it to be used as opposed to seeing it in the context of a film and deciding I want to use it.
