The lighting workshop with sarah-jane was definitely one of the better workshops we’ve had this year. We had to decide on a style of lighting that we wanted and try to achieve it, which is what we did. This involved things like trying to create a moonlit night so we had a hard blue light replicating moonlight coming from out of frame, it was fun to problem solve and try to establish how to best convey a certain mood. Eradicating ugly shadows and other problems then arose which was fun to try and solve. I feel more confident now using the Dedo’s, Diva’s and other lighting equipment because of the multitude of second year films I have been working on that has really helped me get a good grasp on creative lighting.
Alongside this workshop I have also been doing frequent work on second year film shoots for their final dramas, so far having worked on two seperate films as a runner. I worked closely with the lighting teams on both as that is an aspect I would like to specialise in other than being a director. My skills have substantially improved in this regard and I can now correctly set up kinoflows, didos, divas and even use the studio lighting to a reliable degree.
