Concept Development

After a meeting with Jini we all sat together for a few hours in the library and worked out exactly what we want our concept to be. We like the idea of showing the changing of state on three different levels of perspective, normal, macro and micro and showing concepts and emotions on levels you don’t normally see. We will have a projected image of something like someone smoking a cigarette then in the fractured mirror projections behind we will mix microscope footage and macro footage of the objects to create a chaotic exploration of the act of smoking a cigarette and how that affects the body.

We want to look at the ‘organic machine’ that is the human body which we will be exploring with a rich and layer soundtrack that exemplifies this, using mechanical sounds to emphasise the mechanical nature of our bodies. We like the idea of degradation as well, the idea that we decompose but machines do not and we want to explore the natural process of decomposition and the unsettling fact that machines and the digital world can endure.

We will be shooting small processes like getting goosebumps and kissing to then explore the reactions going on within the ‘organic machine’ as emotions are explored using colour and sound alongside movement to build up a powerful experience.
